Abstract

In Rabi rice, seedling root dip treatment with 0.02% emulsion of chlorpyrifos was found to be the best in controlling initial yellow stem borer, Scirpophaga incertulas Walker infestation in six rice cultures along with a variety Jaya. Application of carbofuran granules @ 1 kg a.i./ha, though found better than untreated control, was inferior to seedling root dip treatment in terms of controlling both dead heart as well as white ear head formation. Increase in yield was observed in both granular application and seedling root dip over untreated control to the extent of 1.14 to 1.51 and 1.42 to 1.79 times, respectively.
