Abstract

In the field experiments on control of Cylas formicarius (Fabricius), the sweet potato weevil using different insecticides, conducted during 1997–99, it was found that dipping of vines before planting followed by spraying at 30 and 45 days after planting (DAP) with monocrotophos, dimethoate, chlorpyriphos, acephate and fenvalerate effectively reduced the vine and tuber damage and increased tuber yields. Among the insecticides evaluated, fenvalerate and monocrotophos are highly effective with cost benefit ratio of 1:1.9 and 1:1.6, respectively.
