Attraction of Food Baits for Use in Red Palm Weevil Rhynchophorus ferrugineus Olivier Pheromone Trap

Field trials conducted to study the attractiveness of food baits for use in red palm weevil (RPW) Rhynchophorus ferrugineus Olivier pheromone traps indicated that dates recorded the best weevil captures and was statistically at par with sugarcane. The study also showed that it is essential to add a food bait in RPW pheromone traps to sustain the trapping efficiency. However, oil palm fruit proved to be a poor bait as it adversely affected the efficiency of RPW pheromone trap.
