Post-flowering stalk rot (PFSR) disease complex is a serious limiting factor in maize production in the country. A disease sick plot was developed at Agricultural Research Station, Amberpet for this disease over a period spanning three decades for screening maize genotypes. A yellow grain type PFSR resistant pool was constituted after extensive screening of All co-ordinated Maize project trial materials. From this pool, inbred lines were developed by selfed progeny method through screening in the disease sick plot accompanied by tooth pick inoculation. Eight cycles of inbreeding were carried out. Finally 21 agronomically desirable inbred lines resistant to PFSR with a disease rating of 2 to 5 on a 1–9 rating scale (1- immune reaction; 9 = susceptible reaction; < 5 = resistant reaction) were developed.
