Field trials were conducted to study the persistence of profenofos 50 EC in green and cured cardamom during 2000, 2001, 2002 in Adalur, Tamil Nadu, India. The mean initial deposit was 2.76 and 2.00 ppm, half life was 4.0 and 3.7 days and waiting period was 11.1 and 7.8 days in green and cured cardamom capsules, respectively at recommended concentration of 0.05 per cent. The residues at all applied concentrations were dissipated to below detectable limit (0.0625ppm) on 30 days after application. The suggested waiting period at 0.05 per cent was safe enough to contain the pests without residue problems.
