Field experiments were conducted during Kharif 2002 and 2003 on the use of soil amendments and different forms of nitrogen and potassium fertilizers and their effect on the incidence of stem rot of groundnut caused by S. rolfsii with 13 treatments. Application of calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) resulted in minimum stem rot incidence (29.8%) followed by recommended dose of NPK (31.3), gypsum as basal (31.6), gypsum application -2 times (31.9) and recommended dose of NPK + Zn (32.2)as against control (78.2). In addition, the same treatment gave increased pod yield (1781 kg ha-1) and haulm yield (2294 kg ha-1) besides decreasing pods left over in soil (144 kg ha-1) and resulted in highest cost benefit ratio (CBR) of 1.46 than other treatments tested. The next best treatments were gypsum as basal application with CBR of 1.25 and recommended dose of NPK + Zn with CBR of 1.24.
