Four leaf characters, viz., leaf area, leaf thickness, trichome density and chlorophyll content were correlated with leafhopper and whitefly population. The data indicated that leaf area, leaf thickness and chlorophyll content exerted no effect on leafhopper population, while trichome density had negative correlation. The trichome density in different varieties ranged between 550.8 to 1068.5/cm2. The leaf area had positive significant effect on whitefly population, whereas leaf thickness, trichome density and chlorophyll content had no significant effect.
