Exotic Pathogen Entry with Crop Germplasm into India - Risks and Significance

Abstract

Variety of pest records were made on 5,711 samples while processing a total of 37,787 exotic samples of various crops during 2007–2009. Quarantine significant pests like Peanut stripe virus on peanut and Pseudomonas syringae on tomato were intercepted from Japan and Taiwan, respectively. Other important interceptions made during the processing included Alternaria porri and Botrytis allii on onion from USA; A. dauci on carrot from USA; A. brassicicola on mustard from Germany; B. cinerea on sunflower from Serbia; Colletotrichum graminicola on sorghum from Mali; C. dematium on okra from Taiwan; Puccinia carthami on safflower from USA; and Aphelenchoides besseyi on paddy from Philippines.
