Abstract

Field trials were carried out during Kharif 2007–2008 to evaluate resistance for shoot fly, stem borer and shoot bug in 27 genotypes of sorghum. Based upon hierarchical clustering considering parameters of shoot fly oviposition, shoot fly deadhearts, stem borer induced deadhearts and shoot bug adult population, seven genotypes viz., SR 770-2, SR 970-2, SR 833, GFS 261, ICSV 745, IS 2312 and IS 2205 were found resistant while 14 genotypes viz., SR 1247-1, SR 2126, ICSV 705, SPV 839, CSV 15, SR 2135, RS 29, CSH 5, GSSV 251, NSS 103, SR 1115-1, CSH 6, CSH 9 and SPV 462 were moderately resistant. Four genotypes viz., SR 770-2, SR 970-2, SR 833 and GFS 261 showed high levels of multiple resistance to shoot fly, stem borer and shoot bug. The resistant entries can be further utilized in developing multiple pest resistant lines with desirable agronomic traits.
