Abstract

Studies were carried out to combine blast resistant gene Pi-2 through introgression into bacterial leaf blight resistant improved Samba Mahsuri (B95-1) through marker assisted selection. The near isogenic line (NILs) carrying Pi-2 blast resistance gene was used as donor parent which was crossed with B95-1 to generate mapping populations. The F2 segregating plants obtained from these crosses were phenotyped with a highly virulent isolate of M. grisea (DRR isolate) in uniform blast nursery and Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae in pot culture studies. The segregation ratio (R: S) was 3:1 which revealed that the population segregated in true Mendalian way and the resistant gene is dominant in nature.
