Efficacy of a New Insecticide Combination Against Major Pests of Paddy

Abstract

Insecticidal trials were conducted against major pests of paddy during the year 2009- 2010 in three cropping seasons viz., Rabi 2009–10, Kharif 2010 and Rabi’2010–11 at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Pattambi funded by All India Co-ordinated Rice Improvement Programme, Hyderabad using the cv Jyothi. The new molecules tested during the periods include a combination product flubendiamide (4%) + buprofezin (20%) @ (875 ml/ha), flubendiamide (125 ml/ha), buprofezin (800ml/ha), dinotefuran (600 & 800 g/ha) and monocrotophos (1390 ml/ha) as check insecticide with an untreated control. The pooled results of all the three seasons revealed that the combination product flubendiamide + buprofezin was the most effective treatment against major rice pests and was superior in efficacy over all the treatements including that of check insecticide with 55.0 and 20.8 per cent reduction in dead heart and white ear caused by yellow stem borer, 65.4 reduction of silver shoots by gall midge, 44.4 per cent reduction of damaged leaves by whorlmaggot and 17.1 per cent reduction of leaffolder over the check insecticide monocrotophos. The brown plant hopper population was reduced by 17.9 and 48.4 per cent at 70 and 85 days after treatment over the check insecticide. The grain yield per plot was also increased in the combination product sprayed plot by 20.4 and 22.9 per cent over the check insecticide treated and control plots.
