Fifty horsegram accessions were screened for resistance to pulse beetle, Callosobruchus chinensis L. under laboratory conditions (28±2°C and 60±5% R.H.). The results revealed that free choice oviposition by the beetle, adult progeny development, grain damage and weight loss varied significantly (P< 0.05) among horsegram accessions. Palem-2, was not preferred by the bruchid for egg laying, no adult emergence, no per cent insect damage and weight loss indicating its resistance to bruchids. The accessions, NS/04/124 (1.0) SKN-88 (1.3), KSAS/06/391 (1.3), NSB-10 (1.3) recorded significantly lowest number of eggs. The accessions, Palem-1, AK-21 and NSB-27 had no adult emergence. The accessions NS/04/124, KSAS/06/391, NS/05/10, NS/05/9, NSJ/NAIP/140–239 recorded least (1.0) adult emergence. There was no insect damage in KSAS/06/391, Palem-1, AK-21 and NSB-27. Lowest damage was recorded in NSM-125 (1.0%), NSJ/NAIP/140–239 (1.0%), NDS-259 (2.0%), NS/05/84 (2.7%), The accessions, NSM-125 (1.0%), NDS-259 (1.7%) and NS/05/84 (1.9%) recorded minimum loss in seed weight.
