Abstract

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is an important edible oilseed crop in India. Sunflower Necrosis Disease (SND) caused by Tobacco streak virus is one of the most limiting factors for sunflower cultivation. The virus has a wide host range infecting members of many families. Out of 43 host plant species from eight families tested for their reaction to SND by sap inoculation, 33 expressed visible symptoms belonging to the families viz., Asteraceae, Chenopodiaceae, Cucurbitaceae, Leguminosae, Malvaceae and Solanaceae.
