Integrated Management of Root Rot and Root Knot Disease Complex of Tomato

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted on Meloidogyne incognita and Rhizoctonia solani sick plots during Kharif, 2009. The integration of treatments viz., soil solarization (S), seed treatment with chemicals(C) and bio agents T. harzianum (T) and B. subtilis (B), (S+C+T+B) were found to be superior in reducing the per cent population of Meloidogyne (62.1), Rhizoctonia (91.0) and other fungi (60.2), when compared to inoculated control. Similarly, the combined treatment (S+C+T +B) not only increased the per cent shoot length but also increased shoot dry weight and root dry weight by 57.1, 54.3 and 43.3, respectively. Soil solarization along with chemicals and bioagents (S+C+T+B) reduced root knot index by 1.6 when compared to inoculated control (4.7). Among the individual treatments soil solarization recorded low root knot index of 2.9 while it was high (4.3) in treatment with B. subtilis. The effectiveness of combined treatments (S+C+T+B) also significantly decreased the pre and post emergence rotting with 59.0 and 68.3 per cent, respectively. Among the individual treatments, seed treatment with thiram and abamectin was found to be effective compared to the rest of the treatments. However, among the treatments seed treatment with chemicals was found to be economical as indicated by CB ratio of 1:16.30.
