Bioefficacy of Chlorantraniliprole against Stemborers and Leaffolder Infesting Basmati Rice

Abstract

Efficacy of chlorantraniliprole (Ferterra 0.4% GR), a new insecticide of anthranilic diamide class was evaluated @ 20, 30 40 and 50 g ai ha−1 and compared with the check, cartap hydrochloride (Padan 4G), an insecticide of neristoxin group @ 1000 g a.i. ha−1 under irrigated field conditions in the Punjab against stemborers and leaffolder infesting basmati rice during the period 2009 to 2011. Chlorantraniliprole @ 40 g a.i. ha−1 provided an effective control of stemborers (1.48% dead hearts and 2.05% white-ears), which was at par with its higher dose of 50 g a.i. ha−1 (1.36% dead hearts and 1.88% white-ears) and the check, cartap hydrochloride (1.36% dead hearts and 1.92% white-ears) but was significantly better than its lower doses of 30 and 20 g a.i. ha−1 and the untreated control. Similarly, the per cent leaves damaged by the leaffolder in chlorantraniliprole @ 40 g a.i. ha−1 (4.12%) was at par with its higher dose of 50 g a.i. ha−1 (3.82%) and cartap hydrochloride (3.86%). Highest paddy yield was recorded in the check, cartap hydrochloride (37.36 qha−1), followed by chlorantraniliprole at 50 g a.i. ha−1 and 40 g a.i. ha−1. Thus, chlorantraniliprole (Ferterra 0.4% GR) @ 40 g a.i. ha−1 proved effective against stemborers and leaffolder and can be recommended for their control on basmati rice.
