Field experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of newer insecticides against legume pod borer, Maruca vitrata (Geyer) on greengram in the Department of Pulses, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore during Kharif and Rabi seasons of 2012. The results showed that flubendiamide @ 24g a.i./ha, chlorantraniliprole @ 30g a.i./ha and indoxacarb @ 75g a.i./ha were effective against M. vitrata. During Kharif 2012, the mean significant minimum number of Maruca webbings (6.2/10 plants) were registered in chlorantraniliprole @ 30g a.i./ha followed by 6.9 and 7.1 webbings per 10 plants in flubendiamide @ 24g a.i./ha and indoxacarb @ 75g a.i./ha, respectively with the highest per cent reduction of damage (78.8%) in chlorantraniliprole @ 30g a.i./ha. In Rabi 2012, flubendiamide @ 24g a.i./ha recorded the mean least damage of 8.5 webbings per 10 plants and followed by chlorantraniliprole @ 30g a.i./ha (8.9 webbings/10 plants) and indoxacarb @ 75g a.i./ha (9.3 webbings/10 plants). Flubendiamide @ 24g a.i./ha showed the maximum per cent yield increase over control (72.6) and it was 71.3 per cent in chlorantraniliprole @ 30g a.i./ha and 69.9 per cent in indoxacarb @ 75g a.i./ha. Highest seed yield was registered in chlorantraniliprole @ 30g a.i./ha (579.2 kg/ha) and flubendiamide @ 24g a.i./ha (312.5 kg/ha) during Kharif and Rabi seasons of 2012, respectively.
