Screening of rice genotypes for differential responses against rice tungro disease

Abstract

One hundred and twenty rice genotypes (120) were screened against rice tungro virus disease (RTV) under glasshouse conditions. Among the selected rice genotypes, 29 rice genotypes recorded disease score of three and produced symptoms 21 days after inoculation with RTV or produced mild or no symptoms at the time of scoring were considered as resistant genotypes. Of these, seven were N 22 mutants (N22M RT 443, N22M RT 444, N22M RT 16, N22M RT 152-2, N22M RT 418, N22M RT 360 and N22M RT 407) and twenty (20) were IRTN lines (ASD 7 (ACC6303), IR 62, IR 72, Moddai Karuppan (ACC15471), Pankhari 203 (ACC5999), Ptb 8 (ACC6291), TKM 6 (ACC237), ARC10312 (ACC12428), ARC12596 (ACC22176), Palasithari 601 (ACC12069), Utri Merah (ACC16680), Utri Merah (ACC16682), Utri Rajapan (ACC16684), Balimau Putih (ACC17204), Tjempo Kijik (ACC16602), CNTLR85033-9-3-1-1, DM24, DR31, Milagrosa (ACC5159) and ARC 11554 (ACC21473) along with rice cvs. Nidhi and Vikramarya. Thirty seven rice genotypes, 21 IRTN lines and 16 N 22 mutants recorded disease score of five and produced 11–30% partial yellow leaf discoloration at 15–20 days after inoculation with RTD were considered as moderately resistant. The remaining 54 rice genotypes viz., IRTN lines (10), N 22 mutants (43) along with rice cv. T(N)1) showed susceptible (7 score) and highly susceptible (9 score) reaction and expressed symptoms at 10–15 days after inoculation with RTD. This is the first report on resistance of N 22 mutants against RTD.
