Efficacy of leaf extracts and newer insecticides against Maruca vitrata in greengram

Abstract

An experiment was conducted for two years with leaf extracts and newer insecticides to evaluate their efficacy at different growth stages against Maruca vitrata in Greengram (Vigna radiata). At bud initiation stage, first spray with metaflumizone 22% SC 0.044 per cent spray was found to be the most effective followed by chlorfenapyr 10% SC, which was on par with neem leaf extract (NLE) spray at bud initiation stage. Metaflumizone recorded the 8.78% pod damage with the highest (85.7) per cent reduction in pod damage over untreated control followed by chlorfenapyr (80.1) which is on par with metaflumizone spray at 50% flowering stage. The NLE and karanj leaf extract (KLE) sprayed at bud initiation stage recorded 64.6 and 58.6 per cent reduction in pod damage over untreated control. The spray at bud initiation stage recorded 0.69 (KLE)-1.22 (metaflumizone) kg plot yields with an increase of 58–157 per cent yield over untreated control.
