Field efficacy of newer insecticide molecules against green semilooper, Thysanoplusia orichalcea in black gram

Abstract

An experiment was conducted in Kharif season during 2013 and 2014 to find the field efficacy of newer molecules against green semilooper, Thysanoplusia orichalcea in black gram. The results revealed that the maximum percentage of larval reduction was in chlorantraniliprole @ 100 ml/ha (75.2%) followed by indoxacarb @ 200 ml/ha (70.5%) whereas, triazophos @ 750 ml/ha (36.0%) was least effective at 3 DAS. A maximum of 95.0 per cent larval reduction was observed in chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC treated plot 10 days after first spray. The overall highest mean per cent reduction of green semilooper in black gram was noted in newer insecticide molecules, chlorantraniliprole (89.7%), indoxacarb (85.1%) and novaluron+indoxacarb (79.2%). Highest mean seed yield of black gram was recorded in chlorantraniliprole (11.4 q/ha) followed by indoxacarb (9.8 q/ha) and novaluron+indoxacarb (8.8 q/ha) whereas the lowest yield was observed in untreated control (4.4 q/ha). The increase in seed yield more than doubled in chlorantraniliprole and indoxacarb treated plots which recorded the highest cost benefit ratio of 1: 6.71 and 1: 5.87, respectively.
