Effect of different IPM modules on soybean girdle beetle and stemfly

Abstract

The field experiments were conducted during Kharif season of the year 2009 and 2010 to study the effect of different IPM Modules on incidence of stem pests on soybean at Department of Entomology, Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani (Maharashtra, India). The experiment comprising MAU IPM modules, NRCS IPM module, BIPM module, chemical control and untreated control was laid out in randomized block design with four replications. The results based on pooled data revealed that significantly minimum per cent plants infested by stemfly (7.9 %) and girdle beetle (5.2 %) were observed in MAU IPM module. Significantly minimum per cent length of stem tunnelled by stemfly at mid season and at physiological maturity was observed in MAU IPM module (9.6 % and 13.0 % respectively). Lowest per cent length of stem tunnelled by girdle beetle at mid season and physiological maturity was observed in MAU IPM module (10.7 % and 12.8 %, respectively). Highest population of predators was observed in untreated control followed by BIPM, MAU IPM module and NRCS IPM module which were found at par with each other. Significantly lowest population of predators was observed in chemical control treatment. Significantly maximum yield was recorded in MAU IPM module (25.8 q/ha) followed by chemical control treatment (25.6 q/ha) and NRCS IPM module (25.5 q/ha) which were found at par with each other and significantly superior to rest of the treatments. The highest I.C.B.R. 1: 4.9 was obtained in MAU IPM module, followed by NRCS IPM module (1: 4.7) and chemical control (1: 3.7).
