The flea beetle and thrips are the major production constraints in grape cultivation in India and are not successfully managed with the available insecticides. The objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of cyazypyr (HGW86 10%OD), a new generation anthranilic diamide insecticide in comparison with recommended insecticides against flea beetle, Scelodonta strigicollis and thrips, Scirtothrips dorsalis, Thrips hawaensis and Thrips palmi in grapes for two fruiting seasons. Among the different doses of cyazypyr tested, cyazypyr at 70g a.i/ha and 60g a.i/ha has recorded maximum reduction in flea beetle population and these two doses are equally effective with the standard check, thiamethoxam 25 WG @ 62.5g a.i/ha. The efficacy of cyazypyr @ 70 and 60 g a.i/ha was consistent against the pest during both the seasons of experimentation. Against the thrips complex, cyazypyr @ 70 and 60g a.i per ha has successfully caused maximum reduction in the population during both the spray schedules. The maximum thrips reduction achieved was to the extent of 97 per cent during first season and 100 per cent during second season. These doses have drastically reduced the thrips population within seven days after spray and minimized the damage caused by the pest. Cyazypyr @ 70g a.i per ha has also recorded maximum berry yield of 19.38 and 20.38 tonnes per hectare followed by 60g a.i per ha, which has registered 18.35 tonnes during first year and remained on par with cyazypyr @ 70g a.i per ha. Therefore, cyazypyr a new insecticide having a cross spectrum of action on both chewing, biting and sucking insects, can be a best proposition in the IPM of grapes against flea beetle and thrips.
