Evidence of expanded host and geographic range of curculionid weevil, Dyscerus nr fletcheri

The occurrence of Dyscerus nr fletcheri Marshall (Curculionidae: Coleoptera) on new host fig, Ficus carica cv. Deanna and in a new location, i.e., Bengaluru, Karnataka, India is recorded. Earlier, this weevil was reported as apple fruit borer in northeastern parts of India and this is the first record of D. fletcheri boring the shoots of fig in southern India. An abrupt shift in the host and geographical range is evident and this expands the known host and geographic ranges of this limited spread curculionid weevil.
