Disulfoton was tried at three different levesls of application in large areas of sugarcane in village Velagandurru in West Godavari district for the control of sugarcane scale Melanaspis glomerata G during 1975–76. The results obtained conclusively show that soil application of 5 per cent disulfoton granules at 20 Kg (1 Kg ai.) pea acre in a single dose in July or August when the crop is about 6 to 7 months old, is most effective in reducing the scale insect with resultant increase in yield of 3.16 t/a (7.80 t/ha) over the plots which received only 10 Kg granules per acre, and 17.6 t/a (43.4 t/ha) over the mean cane yield recorded in that area.
