Field studies on the chemical control of cabbage borer Hellula undalis Fabricus was carried out during 1974.75 at the Agricultural College Farm, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. Among the 5 chemicals tried each at 3 dosages carbaryl and quinalphos at 0.2% concentration are highly effective and superior over malathion, endosulfan and fenthion but are on par at their lower concentration of 0.15% in keeping down the borer damage on cabbage plants and cabbage heads. Both the treatments kept the cabbage heads completely free from the borer caterpillars and gave the highest yield of undamaged as well as total produce. The yield increases in these treatments ranged from 398.1% to 545.2% over the untreated control. The treatments endosulfan, malathion and fenthion though superior to the control, their performance in general is not encouraging with regards to their efficacies in keeping down the pest as has been observed in field studies.
