Dissipation of Aldrin Residues in Clay Loam Soil Under the Cover of Root Crops*

Abstract

The root crops beet root, radish and carrot grown on aldrin (3,9 and 15 kg a i/ha) treated clay loam soil had practically no influence on the persistence and dissipation of aldrin residues in soil. However, the absorption of aldrin/dieldrin residues was maximum in case of carrot, therefore the disappearance of insecticides from clay loam soil under the cover of carrot was slightly more. The conversion of aldrin into dieldrin in soil was higher in 1972 as compared to 1973 probably due to higher moisture content in soil during 1972 which might have resulted in faster activity of microorganisms. The dissipation of aldrin residues was faster in the beginning, later on the rate of degradation was slow.
