Abstract

Efficacy of five mixtures, malathion + diazinon, malathion + fenthion, malathion + ethyl-parathion, malathion + lindane, malathion + carbaryl and the six insecticides which formed these mixtures was tested against brinjal shoot/fruit borer, Leucinodes orbonalis G. Lindane and its mixture with malathion were significantly better than other treatments against the borer. Effects of mixtures of diazinon, carbaryl and ethyl parathion with malathion proved superior to the combining insecticides, used alone. At the fruiting stage, mixtures malathion + lindane and malathion + carbaryl proved better than others and their effects were comparable to the effects of the insecticides comprising these mixtures. Efficacy of other mixtures was almost equal to the efficacy of the combining insecticides alone indicating thereby the possibility of use of hazardous but effective insecticides in combination with the safer ones.
