During kharif 1978, rice hispa, Dicladispa (Hispa) armigera Oliv. infested severely about 50 acres of paddy crop arouna Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. In a field experiment against ths adult hispa beetles twelve commercially formulated insecticides, formothion 25 EC, quinalphos 25 EC and 1.5% dust, monocrotophos 40 EC, phosphamidon 100 EC. phosalone 35 EC and 4% dust, methyl demeton 25 EC dimethoate 30 EC, methyl parathion 2% dust BHC 10% dust and DDT 5% dust were tested. The emulsified concentrates were tested at 004% @ 450 1/ha and dusts @ 20 kg/ha. Two insecticidal applications were given — first on 5th September and second on 13th September, 1978 All insecticidal treatments were found significantly superior to control. Among all insrcticidal treatments, quinalphos (both dust and EC), phosalone (both dust and EC), methyl parathion (dust) and monocrotophos (EC), were found most effective and at par in controlling the adult hispa beetles and prevented the pest multiplication upto three weeks. Maximum grain yield was recorded in quinalphos (dust) (16.90 q/ha), followed by quinalphos (EC) (16 48 q/ha). Considering the net profit/ha, quinalphos (EC) gave the maximum profit of Rs. 628.26 followed by quinalphos (dust), monocrotophos (EC) and phosalone (EC), which gave profit of Rs. 608.10, 606.90 and 509.90, respectively.
