Abstract

A field trial, consisting of 6 treaments viz. EPTC (3.75 kg a. i. ha -1 pre-plant); EPTC (pre-plant) followed by linuron (0.25 kg 3. i. ha -1 as pre-em); EPTC (pre-plant), linuron (pre-em) followed by propanil (0.87 kg a. i. ha -1 as post-em); ioxynil (0.36 kg a. i. ha -1 as post-em); cultural and untreated control, was conducted at Central Potato Research Institute, Simla in summer, 1974;. The dominant weeds fol1nd in the potato field were Oxalis latifolia (a perennial dicot). Galinsoga parviflora (an annual dicot), and Echinochloa colonum and Setaria glauca (both monocots). Least weed competition was provided by the cultural treatment followed by the three-herbicide (EPTC, linuron and propanil) combination, as indicated by the tuber yields to the tune of 235.5 and 190.8 q/ha by the respective treat-ments as compared to 120.6 q/ha for untreates control.
