Seed dressing with isofenphos wettable powder @ 16 g a. i./kg of seed or soaking of sprouted seeds in 0.5% isofenphos (WP or EC) could control gall midge infestation for 30 days without any effect on growth of seedling. It was a better treatment for nursery protection. In seedling root dipping the exposure period could be reduced to 1 to 2 minutes by mixing insecticide (isoienphos or chlorpyriphos) with superphosphate slurry Mephosfolan, carbofuran and isofenphos granules proved to be relatively better insecticides against gall midge maggots which entered inside ihe plants. Field studies revealed the possibility of coating wettable powders of isofenphos or catbofuran on urea super granules for the control of stem borer, whorl maggot and brown planthopper. Howere, the method of coating needs further improvement.
