Abstract

The insect pests feeding on pearl millet were monitored during Kharif, 1980 at Gwalior. Grey weevil (Myllocerus undecimpustulatus macuiosus Desb.), flea beetle (Longitarsus belgaumensis Fabr.) and grasshopper (Hieroglyphus banian Fabr.) were found feeding on the. tender leaves of the corp before earhead emergence and stem borer (Chilo partellus Swin.) damaged the stem. Gram pod borer (Heliothis armigera Hub), gandhi bug (Leptocorisa varicornis Fabr.), flower beetle (Oxycetonia varsicolor Fabr.) and lygaeid bug (Lygus militarius Fabr.) were observed feeding on the earheads. H. armigera appeared in a severe form on earheads of the crop sown on June 24, 1980. (1 to 5 larvae per cob.)
