Abstract

1) To assess the level of knowledge regarding selected psychiatric emergencies among final year B. Sc. nursing students in Sumandeep Nursing College at Vadodara.

2) To evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme regarding selected psychiatric emergencies among final year B. Sc. nursing students in Sumandeep Nursing College at Vadodara.

The investigator used pre experimental research (one group pre-test post-test design). Non probability convenience sampling technique was used to select the 30 samples of final year B. Sc. Nursing students at Sumandeep Nursing College. A structured knowledge questionnaire was prepared to assess the knowledge regarding selected psychiatric emergencies. The conceptual framework for this study was based on modified King's goal attainment theory. The data was analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Chi square test was used to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme.

The findings reveals that there was no significant association between the pre-test knowledge score and demographic variables such as age, gender, area of living, education of father, education of mother, family history of psychiatric illness, previous information.

Structured teaching programme was very highly effective in improving the knowledge of final year B. Sc. Nursing students regarding selected psychiatric emergencies.
