Abstract

The aim of the study was to compare the personality predictors for emotional intelligence of adolescents of urban, rural and tribal areas. The sample consisted of 600 adolescents (300 boys and 300 girls) of age 16 and above years drawn randomly from different Government High Schools of Bangalore, Chitradurga and Tumkur districts. Multi-Dimensional Assessment of Personality (Sanjay Vohra, FORM-T, 1996) and Emotional Intelligence Inventory developed by Mangal and Shubhramangal (2011) was employed. Regression Analysis was used to analyze the data. The results revealed that out of 20 dimensions only 5, 2 and 2 and overall 9 personality dimensions best predicted the emotional intelligence of adolescents from urban, rural and tribal area respectively. The study has clearly brought out the fact that there are differential personality predictors for emotional intelligence among urban, rural and tribal adolescents
