Psycho-Social development & academic achievement of a single parent child in Nagaland

Abstract

Single parenting has always been the important aspect of child rearing practices. In terms of children growth and development parenting is undoubtedly taken as a major responsibility, especially when it falls on a single parent. There are several issues and responsibilities with single parenting and of course societal pressure to bring up a child according to the societal norms and standards. A single parent has to face and deal multiple tasks either due to separation, divorce or death of a spouse. But a child has to nurture with the demand of socialization process so a single parent's life becomes very depressive and unwelcoming when a single parent is a female. The study covered on how the child grows up under a single parent. It covers up the educational scenario of the child and also the level of challenges face, the age group and data's which shows the economic background. This study aims to investigate “Single Parent Child ”based on sample survey in the area of study and analysis of the data through interview method forms major part of this study. The survey was carried out on 30 single parent children so a qualitative analysis of information collected from the respondents. This study finds out how the child grows up under a single parent. It covers up the educational scenario of the child and also the level of challenges face by him or her, also the age group and different economic background that shows variation in psycho-socio and academic achievement with single parenting. Out of the total 30 respondents, there was more of the teenage/mere Adult. It has been a learning experience to be interaction with this section of people. It is a mixture of emotions they have and one is different from the other. And moreover, the reason of them growing up with a single parent is all different as well. Through the statistics is shown with the best ability, there is still a psychological pressure that they have in common and that some took it up as a challenge to be better economically and socially, yet there is difference they grow up when compared with other coupled family.
