Shyness among students pursuing professional and nonprofessional courses: A comparative study

Abstract

The present study is an attempt to assess shyness among students pursuing professional and nonprofessional courses, along with the influence of few demographic variables on academic stress. A total of 600 students (200 professional and 400 nonprofessional) students studying in Mysuru city were randomly selected from various professional and nonprofessional colleges in and around Mysuru city. Data were subjected two way Analysis of variance to find out the difference between course type and demographic variables on domains of shyness including total shyness scores. Results revealed that students pursuing non-professional courses experienced significantly higher shyness in all the domains including total shyness scores. Gender-wise comparison revealed that male students were shyer than female students in all the domains of shyness as well as in total shyness scores.
