Abstract

The direct and correlated response of two pure strains of White Leghorn IWN and IWP subjected to fourteen generations of IDS method of index selection for part period egg production upto 280 days of age were evaluated. The average phenotypic response per generation estimated for part period egg production were 1.34 and 1.30 eggs in IWN and IWP strains respectively. The corresponding responses in the correlated traits were -0.57 and -0.73 days for age at first egg, 5.20 and 6.54 g for 20 week body weight and 0.13 and 0.10 g for 38 week egg weight. The response for egg number and egg weight was significant in both IWN and IWP strains. In the light of the above findings, the breeding strategy for the future is discussed.
