Abstract

A trial was conducted to study the response to three commercial broiler strains to experimental aflatoxicosis. Three commercial broiler strains were fed with diet containing either 0.00 or 0.20 ppm of affatoxin B, for a period of 8 weeks. Control group of each strain recorded better immune response against Newcastle disease, body weight, feed consumption, feed efficiency and livability than their contemporary toxinfedgroups. Enlargement of liver, a trophy of bursa and reduced eviscerated yields were observed due to aflatoxicosis in broiler strains. The toxin fed group of commercial broiler strains recorded lowered blood PCV and haemoglobin serum protein, cholesterol levels and elevated levels of serum glucose, GPT and GOT than their respective control groups. Hence it is concluded that irrespective of broiler strain selected, for getting better performance and economic returns the farmers should feed the broilers with toxin free diets.
