Abstract

The study on egg weight and measurements based on 1014 eggs of Aseel chicken collected during 1998–1999 was made to establish the population nonns for the egg weight and different measures of dimension. The arithmetic mean for egg weight, egg length and egg width was found to be 47.8I±0.18 gm, 5.2S±0.01 cm and 3.96±0.01 cm. The average shape index was observed as 75.46±0.12%. The approximate egg volume (AEV) averaged 64.65±0.24 cc. The egg weight showed the highest variatior (C.V. 11.63%) among all the traits measured. The distribution of egg weight and other mensuration attributes showed very close proximitywith the nonnal distribution as indicated by median, mode, skewness and kurtosis studies. The egg weight showed the highest positive correlation with the Approximate AEV. Its correlation with egg length and egg width was 0.75 and 0.79 respectively.
