Studies on supplementation of Livfitvet* to alleviate the effect of aflatoxin in broilers diet

A biological trial was conducted to study the effect of Livfitvet pennix supplementation @ 0.5 and 1.0 kg per ton of feed on the perfonnance of broilers fed with 0, 100, 200 and 300 ppb aflatoxin. The body weight, feed consumption at 300 ppb aflatoxin level, but only feed consumption significantly (P<0.05) reduced at 100 and 200 ppb. Livfitvet at 0.5 kg per ton of feed significantly (P<0.05) improved the fesd efficiency at 300 ppb aflatoxin level, whereas 1 kg per ton supplementation resulted in significant (P<0.05) improvement in feed consumption in 100 and 300 ppb groups. Mortality of 10% and 5% were recorded in 300 and 200 ppb of aflatoxin group, respectively. However, there was no mortality in other groups. Supplementation of Livfitvet at both the levels did not result in significant improvement in total serum proteins, GGT and NDVRHI titre. Significant (P<0.05) reduction in liver weight was recorded at 0.5 kg Livfitvet at 300 ppb of aflatoxin, but no effects were seen on weight of kidney and bursa. Macroscopic lesions were severe in a flatoxin groups as against mild to moderate in treated groups.
