Abstract

A study has been conducted to evaluate the semen quality traits of males of two WL lines (IWH and IWI). The males (n=50) were housed in individual cages and trained three to four times before collection of semen for measurement of semen quality. The mean semen quality traits measured were, semen appearance score (score 1 to 5) 4.06 and 4.05, semen volume per ejaculate (cc) 0.27 and 0.25, density of spennatozoa (x 109/cc) 4.60 and 4.51, methelene blue reduction time (minutes) 4.11 and 4.21, proportion of live spennatozoa 94.67 and 95.14, proportion of abnonnRl spennatozoa 1.07 and 1.19, total spenns per ejaculate (x 109) 1.24 and 1.15, concentration of live spennatozoa (x 109/cc) 4.36 and 4.29 and concentration of abnonnal spermatozoa (x 109/cc) 0.05 and 0.05 in IWH and IWI lines, respectively. No significant difference was observed among various semen quality traits between two lines.
