Abstract

Under the present investigation, the influence of the position & turning of incubated eggs on the percentage of hatchability & viability in the Japanese quail, Coturnix coturnix Japonica was undertaken. Turning and positioning of incub~ted eggs, as it emerges out from this study, plays an important role in enhancing over-all percentage of hatching (x2=13.27) and is necessary for profitable quail farming. Turning of eggs is found to be instrumental in elevating both the hatching percentage as well as viability when compared to the unturned ones. A relatively high percentage of fertility (92–95% turned, 87–93% unturned) and viability (72.34% in SED turned. 67.41% SED unturned & 66.32% in BEL turned) has been recorded & possible reasons for such a variability documented.
