Clinical signs, growth response and haematological alterations were studied in Japanese quail following infection with S. typhimurium. The disease followed an acute course with high (40%) mortality. A significant decrease in body weight gain was noticed in infected birds. Haematological studies revealed significant decrease in PCV, Hb and TEC. A sharp increase was noticed in total leucocyte count which was due to increase in the number of both the heterophils and lymphocytes but the heterophilia contributed more towards leucocytosis.
