Effect of dietary sodium and potassium on wet droppings in layers

Abstract

An experimcnt was conducted to study effect of excess dietary sodium and potassium on incidence of wet droppings, feed and watel intake and production performance in commercial layers. Hens were fed for 15 days continuously diets containing nutritionally adequate or two excessive levels of sodium (0.28 and 0.42 per cent) or two excessive levels of potassium (0.95 and 1.22 per cent) involving two replicates of 15 hens per treatment. The highest level of potassium followed by the highest level of sodium significantly increased water consumption and faecal moisture. The higher level of sodium and potassium did not differ sigliificantly with control group. However feed consumption, egg production and feed efficiency did not differ significantly among treatment groups and with control group.
