To study the role of nitric oxide (NO) on nutrient uptake in alimentary tract of broiler chicken sodium nitroprusside (SNP) was injected @3 mg/kg b.w. into wing vein of 10 male boiler chickens. In other group 10 male, injected with normal saline served as control. In these control and treated groups uptake study on calcium (Ca) phosphorus (P) and glucose were carried out by administering respective solutions in various segments of small intestine and collecting blood samples from corresponding mesenteric veins at 0, 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes (min) after solution administration. No significant differences in Ca, P and glucose were found between treated and control groups. However, significant difference (P = 0.05) was observed with respect to times.
