Efficacy of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Acacia auriculiformis, Aegle mannelos and Cassia fistula and different vaccines against Newcastle disease was evaluated to control the mortality in chicken flocks experimentally infected with field isolates of Newcastle disease virus. The birds receiving extracts of Aegle mannelos or inactivated RDF vaccine in double dose followed by R2B revellled 50% reduction in mortality. Other extracts or vaccines had comparatively less therapeutic efficacy. HI titre was highest (533.33±61.76 to 1066.66±158.35) in the birds treated with extracts of Aegle marmelos, while immunoglobulin concentration was increased three fold. It suggests that extracts of Aegle mannelos or vaccination with RDF and R2B can be used in controlling outbreaks of Newcastle disease at initial stages.
