Interaction among fumaric acid, probiotic and antibiotic in broilers

Two feeding experiments were conducted with day-old broiler chicks to study the interaction of fumaric acid (FA) with probiotic and antibiotic. Both antibiotic and probiotic significantly improved the growth rate of broilers; but FA supplementation through drinking water at 10g/I; along with or without probiotics (100mg/kg), antibiotics (10mg verginiamycin/kg) or both depressed the growth rate significantly. However the FA alone in feed at 10g/kg improved the growth rate significantly. In the second experiment also, supplementation of FA at 0,5,7.5 and 10g per litre of water resulted in significant growth depression. The data is suggestive of ineompatibility among FA antibiotic and probiotic. FA supplementation increased the packed eell volume and probiotic reduced the serum cholesterol levels.
