Abstract

Selection index II based on six traits viz. 280 days egg production, body weights at 20, 24 and 34 weeks, egg weight and age at sexual maturity was found to be superior (17.09) than two stage selection in terms of absolute genctic gain (Option A 12.22 and Option B 11.36). Out of two multistage selection options, option A with 50% selection in first stage and 40% retention out of stage first selected pullets was marginally superior to option B, in which 40% were selected at first stage and 50% retained out of stage first in terms of aggregate gain. It is concluded that option B of multistage selection of culling 60% pullets in first stage shall be more economical than single stage indices I1, I2 and option A of multistage selection.
