Evaluation of Fenbendazole (Panacur) and Tetramisole (Nilverm) against Ascaridia galli in Japanese quail in Patna and its surrounding area

Abstract

Comparative therapeutic trials were conducted in Quails naturally infected with Ascaridia galli by using two promising anthelmintics viz; Fenbendazole (Panacur) and Tetramisole (Nilverm). In the first trial the declining trend of eggs per gram revealed 14.69%, 5.77% and 0.16% better performance of Tetramisole (2.5mg/bird/single dose) over Fenbendazole (1.5 mg/bird for 3days) on day 4, 7 and 10 of post treatment observation, respectively. In another trial, Tetramisole (0.25%) and Fenbendazole (0.15%) were administered via drinking water to the birds for four days. As per the experimental plan the birds were sacrificed and ascarid worms were counted on day 4, 7, and 10 of post treatment. The declining rate of worm count was also resulted in 17.6 and 47.6% showing better results of Tetramisole over Fenbendazole; on day 4 and 7 post treatment respectively. However, both the drugs were found to be 100% efficacious on day 10 of post treatment.
