Incidence of gout was observed in broiler chicks in Goa from June 2003 till August 2004. Chicks showed dullness and reduced feed consumption. About 98% of the affected birds showed nephrosis with urate crystal deposits in the ureters. Treatment was given with modification of managemental procedures and medicines. Treatment had variable results from farm to farm depending on the environment and managemental conditions. Mortality rate varied from 1.19 to 15.56% of the total number of cases investigated month wise. Maximum mortality was observed during monsoon.
