The microsatellite based genetic diversity was studied in two selected strains of White Leghorn, an unselected control line of White Leghorn and two selected strains of Rhode Island Red using microsatellite marker loci. Polymorphism between different strains was observed for the different marker loci. MCW-104 loci was highly polymorphic while loci MCW-14, ADL-268 and MCW-206 were least polymorphic. All the loci except MCW-104 were not heterozygous. The different strains are not in Hardy Weinberg equilibrium for allele frequencies, which indicates that the determined allele frequencies are under influence of some evolutionary force like selection effects. The Nei's genetic distance and the dendrogram of different strains could classify the strains according to their selection history.
