Serotyping and antibiogram of bacterial isolates from poultry samples

Abstract

In the present study 32 clinical samples of poultry from various sources were investigated. A total of 35 bacterial isolates were recovered from 32 samples. The isolates were identified as E. coli 13 (37.14%), unclassified non-lactose fermenters 10 (28.57%), unclassified lactose fermenters 6 (17.14%), Staphylococcus spp. 2 (5.71%), Proteus spp. 2 (5.71%) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa 2 (5.71%). The overall in-vitro drug sensitivity pattern indicated highest sensitivity of the isolates towards ceftriazone (80.00%) followed by enrofloxacin (77.14%).Whereas, isolates were found to be resistant towards amoxicillin, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, neomycin and tetracycline. Among 13 E. coli isolates serotyped, 12 belonged to the serogroup O2, O8, O77, O78, O80, O99, O105, O120, O132 and O173. Among them the predominant serogroup was O120 (23.07%).
